Literacy: We will read a range of text types including instructional texts, myths and performance poetry. We will also be continuing with regular handwriting practise and spelling activities. Numeracy: We will be practising our times tables, rounding numbers and learning methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Our maths target for the term is to be confident with our 3 times tables as well as our 2,4,5 and 10.
Science: We will be covering two topics this term. The first one will be materials and we will be exploring natural and man-made materials and discussing their uses. After half term we will be identifying different types of rock including granite, sandstone, limestone, slate and flint. I.C.T. Following on from the very impressive work the children produced in the ICT suite last term, we will continue developing basic skills including typing, saving work and using the internet for research. We will also be finding out what a database is, exploring a database and creating our own database. Design Technology: Our topic this term is Moving Mechanisms. We will be investigating simple pneumatic systems and using these to create an object with moving parts. Geography and R.E. Simone Lines and Cheryl James will continue working with the children in these subjects. French: The children continue their fun French lesson, taught by a teacher from Lord Grey School. This term we will be learning more numbers, some instructions and revising work from last term. Music: Emma Smith from MK Music Service will continue working with us. This term we will be developing our rhythm and vocal skills. Library: We will continue to visit our excellent school library at least once a week. Please help children to remember their library books on the right day (Class SM = Thursday, Class EB = Monday). Reading Scheme books can be changed as often as required. P.E. We would ask that children should have their P.E. kit available in school all week. We will have two P.E. lessons per week, one of which will be taught be a sports coach. Weather permitting, one of these will be an outside lesson so children will require suitable footwear and, when appropriate, warm clothing. Homework: Homework has a really important role to play in your child’s progress. Homework will be set on a Wednesday and will be expected in on the following Monday. Children will have numeracy, literacy and spelling homework. Occasionally they will also be expected to complete homework connected to our other topics. They will also have a reading journal and reading book. We will ask the children to read regularly at school and we ask that you support this with regular reading opportunities at home.
