Literacy: We will be continuing to follow the National Literacy Strategy. We will be studying a variety of stories including myths and legends. Children will then plan and write their own stories in a similar style. Numeracy: Following the National Numeracy Strategy we will be developing our knowledge of numbers by securing our knowledge of the four number operations and also tackling areas such as decimals and shape. Science: Our topics this term are “Keeping Healthy” and “Changing State”. We will be using a range of practical investigations to develop our understanding and knowledge in these areas.
I.C.T: The children will be using a drawing package, RM Colour Magic, to further develop their skills in graphic work within ICT. We will also introduce the children to simple uses of spreadsheets. Music: Music this term will focus on patterns and will include both singing and instrumental work Geography: We will be completing a unit of work focussing on local traffic areas around the school. French: Children will continue to learn French this year with the help of staff from Lord Grey. Art: We will be looking at how art is used to portray meaning and stories and at a variety of different art styles from different times and cultures. Design and Technology: This term’s topic is based on biscuits. We will be looking at different recipes as well as making and eating biscuits . P.E. There will be two lessons a week, for children in 5MW these will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and for those in 5JM they will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. One lesson per week will be taught by Mr. Shirley from Premier Sports. Children should have a change of clothing, including trainers, for all games and P.E. activities. There will also be swimming lessons available for year 5 pupils. Parents/Carers should have already received information about these. Homework: Your child will continue to bring a homework book home once a week, usually on a Thursday, with tasks set in it. These will be a literacy and numeracy task plus one other subject. Please ask to see this book and encourage your child to complete the set tasks. Homework should be returned on the following Monday. Spelling is also provided weekly and children are expected to read regularly at home.
