Children in year 6 are entering their final year of Key Stage 2 and will sit their end of key stage tests (SATs) early in the Summer term. For more details on the tests click here. Literacy: We will be looking at letter writing, discussion texts , persuasive writing and journalistic writing Numeracy: We will be covering a range of topics including consolidating and revisiting place value, time and a variety of areas centred around shape and space. History: Our history topic for this term will be Ancient Egypt . Mrs. Codington will be teaching this subject. Geography: We will continue to concentrate on basic geographical skills and knowledge such as places around the world and in the UK, compass directions, continents and landmarks. We will also be covering a unit on “What’s in the News”.
I.C.T. Some I.C.T. lessons will have cross-curricular links but specific I.C.T. will relate to creating multimedia presentations. R.E: We will be looking at how people express their faith through the arts and at religious buildings.. Music: The children will be using “Songwriter” which involves composition and music-making. This subject will also be taught by Mrs. Codington. French: Children will continue to learn French this year with the help of staff from Lord Grey. P.E. There will be two lessons a week One lesson per week will be taught by a sports coach from Premier Sports. Indoor P.E. will be gymnastics and outdoor will be invasion games. Children should have a change of clothing, including trainers, for all games and P.E. activities. Lessons will be on 6AD: Monday & Thursday, 6EM Weds and Thursday, 6RD Tuesday and Wednesday Homework: This plays a vital part in your child’s learning and progress, particularly this year. All homework will relate to the topics being covered in class and will either be a consolidation or extension of these areas. Practice SATs papers will be sent home weekly and we also encourage children to develop a string interest in reading a range of books for pleasure. Children who are placed on a structured reading scheme will be given a reading log and will be heard regularly at school. We ask that you monitor your child’s progress and support this by hearing them read on a regular basis at home. Homework will consist of a piece of literacy and numeracy work and one other curriculum area. It will be set on Thursdays and should be handed in on Monday. If, for any reason, your child is unable to complete set pieces, please send us a note explaining the circumstances.
