Rickley Junior School |

In December 2006, Rickley was successfully assessed for both the Milton Keynes Silver Healthy Schools Award and for the National Healthy Schools Award. As well as meeting the requirements of the standard which are outlined below, our Healthy Schools Week, which usually takes place in July, is a fun-packed week for all the children. Each day starts with a “Wake and Shake” aerobics session, the tuck shop sells new and unusual fruit and the school welcomes visitors including the school nurse, a Yoga teacher and a local police officer. The aims of the National Healthy Schools Programme are: · to support children and young people in developing healthy behaviours · To help raise student achievement · To help to reduce health inequalities · To help promote social inclusion A healthy school promotes the health and well-being of its students and staff and promotes learning and healthy lifestyle choices. National Healthy School status requires schools to meet criteria in four core themes. Schools are asked to demonstrate evidence in the core themes using a whole school approach involving the whole school community. The core themes are: · personal, social and health education including sex and relationship education and drug education (including alcohol, tobacco and volatile substance abuse) · healthy eating · physical activity · emotional health and wellbeing (including bullying) The whole school approach involves working with children and young people, parents, school staff and the whole school community to provide a solid foundation from which developments and improvement are embedded in a systematic way. These processes contribute to the physical and emotional development of all members of the school community. |

And to stay even healthier …. · We try to encourage the children to drink more water. We have a water cooler at school for children to top up their bottles during the day. · At morning break we ask that, if children bring a snack for the morning breaktime, this should be fruit only. Fruit is also available from our Tuck Shop at this time. |
