The following general aims underpin and guide the work of all involved with our school. Through these aims we seek to provide a programme of learning experiences suited to the needs and abilities of each child, which recognizes individual differences and seeks to develop their potentials to the maximum. · To provide a curriculum that enables all of our children to develop their academic potential. · To develop in all our children an independence of thought. · To foster a committed team spirit. · To promote a respect for ourselves, each other and our environment. · To provide an equality of opportunity for everyone. Through a planned and structured curriculum we seek to provide a continuity and progression of learning experiences for each child, developing their knowledge, understanding and skills. This must also address the aesthetic, creative, moral, social and spiritual development of each child as they seek to realise their full potential. Teachers create a rich classroom environment for the children to work in. Displays create interest and form starting points for work. A wide range of resources are made available to support children’s learning. Classes are arranged in year groups. Children spend most of their time with one teacher during the course of every day. Homework is set for the children regularly. This is predominantly in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy with the older children in the school given a wider range of tasks to complete as homework. The National Curriculum is a legal requirement for all children of compulsory school age. This comprises of four core subjects – English, Mathematics, Science and Information Communication Technology. The foundation subjects are Art, Design & Technology, Geography, History, Languages (this is French at Rickley), Music, and Physical Education. Religious Education is also a compulsory requirement and is taught throughout the school. |
